For many years PBQ has participated in pro bono work as well as acquainting our community with the beauty and heritage of quilts. We make children's quilts all year and place these quilts in July and December. These are donated to hospitals, child welfare shelters, children of deploying Camp Shelby soldiers, and other places where we see a need. At our Christmas luncheon we fill tables with toys , candy, school supplies, and personal items as well as stockings for Domestic Abuse Family Shelter.
During 2013 we made and donated 260 quilts, 988 pillows, 165 walker totes, 70 catheter bag covers, 22 small blankets, and 25 “mothers’ scent cloths” for premature babies. Two of the quilts we gave were queen-size quilts made for the Wounded Minutemen of Mississippi. These were used as fund raisers to help wounded veterans in our area. The pillows are given from the Emergency Rooms as well as the Pediatric Units of Hattiesburg’s Forrest General Hospital and Wesley Medical Center, and Marion General Hospital in Columbia.
